Did Roger Clemens Lie?

Roger Clemens’ denial of steroid use warrants further investigation, Congress said Wednesday in asking the Justice Department to determine whether the star pitcher lied under oath in testimony to a House committee. Never mind the two failing wars, an economy that’s bottoming out, a housing market that’s deader than dead, the gas prices that are soaring through the roof and a dollar that’s not worth the paper it’s printed on, it’s nice to see Congress is getting to the heart of the important stuff… Lying baseball players…

A Death in the Family

I think my old video iPod is on its last legs, which is a shame as its barely 2½ years old. I think its down to a combination of age, overuse in its younger days and underuse since its big brother, the iPhone, came on the scene.

Like Shooting Fish in a Barrell

The US Navy has successfully struck a disabled spy satellite with a missile fired from a warship in waters west of Hawaii, military officials say. Operatives had only a 10-second window to hit the satellite which went out of control shortly after it was launched in December 2006. But it is not yet known how successful the operation was - the missile needed to pierce the bus-sized satellite’s fuel tank, containing more than 450kg (1,000lbs) of toxic hydrazine, which would otherwise be expected to survive re-entry. The Pentagon said confirmation that the fuel tank has been hit should be available within 24 hours.

Blu-ray Wins Hi-Def War

Following mass defections to Sony’s Blu-ray format, Toshiba is admitting defeat and ceasing all HD-DVD production. There are plenty of reasons Blu-ray won out in the end, but the biggest had to be Sony’s gamble of tying it to the PlayStation 3, which makes it the most popular Hi-Def DVD player on the market right now (and possibly the cheapest).

Conspiracy Theory Much?

Mohamed Al Fayed got his day in court after giving evidence to the inquest into the deaths of Princess Diana and pointed the finger at anyone and everyone. Writers Strike is Over

It’s official: WGA strike is over. “The strike is over,” Patric Verrone said, dispassionately but with the hint of a smile. “Our membership has voted. Writers can go back to work.” Sweet, some TV shows could be back on the air as soon as next month.

Milestones

A few weeks ago we celebrated a year here in North Carolina, and last week I personally celebrated a year in my job. And I won’t lie, its been a looooong time since I held a job for over a year, well one that didn’t involve working in a basement. So to mark the end of that “transitional” year, I plan to make a few goals for myself that I hope to accomplish come February 10th 2009 in no particular order.

Roy Scheider 1932 - 2008

Roy Scheider, the actor best known for his role as a police chief in the blockbuster movie “Jaws,” has died, he was 75. Scheider received two Oscar nominations, for best-supporting actor in 1971’s “The French Connection” in which he played the police partner of Oscar winner Gene Hackman, and for best-actor for 1979’s “All That Jazz,” the autobiographical Bob Fosse film. However, he was best known for his role in Steven Spielberg’s 1975 film, “Jaws,” the enduring classic about a killer shark terrorizing beachgoers and well as millions of moviegoers.

Canvasing

A funny thing happened during the Super Bowl pre-pre-pre game show, no not the Paula Abdul “performance”, something else, something unexpected. I, your resident former illegal alien tuned legal permanent resident, was rudely interrupted, this was during the pre-pre-pre game show mind, by a knock on the door by the street team of Ron Paul.

Super Bowl Adverts

Super Bowl Adverts. Rejoice, for this years Super Bowl adverts are online already… It was kinda a mixed bag this year, much like years past, nothing really stood out for me except Will Ferrell’s “Bud Light: Suck One” line…
